IPL Hair Removal

IPL Permanent Hair Reduction

Intense Pulsed Light is an extremely effective way of treating unwanted hair. Depending upon the area of the body IPL can dramatically reduce the hair growth. Unfortunately it is not suitable for everyone. At Jeune we use medical grade TGA approved IPL machine.  Palomar Starlux.

How does it work?

IPL works by emitting light into the skin. The light is then absorbed by the pigment in the hair and turned into heat (similar to when you wear black clothing in the sun you will be much hotter than if you wear white clothing) The heat produced then damages the cells responsible for growing a new hair. Therefore only hair with pigment is suitable. Fair and grey hair is not suitable and results would be unsatisfactory.

What does it feel like?

The best way to describe it is like a “Zing”, some say it feels like an elastic band flicking the skin. Most people feel it is no more uncomfortable than a wax. Afterward it feels like mild sunburn.

Are there any risks?

IPL uses no UV light so there is not a cancer risk. As we use infrared light, green glasses must be worn to protect your eyes. Side effects such as blistering can occasionally occur but if treated correctly will not result in marking the skin. Problems can occur if the skin is tanned within 4 weeks of treatment, or the area has been exposed to sun or tanning beds prior to treatment. Areas with tattoos cannot be treated.

How many treatments will I need?

Jeune services hair removal all around Melbourne to make it easier for you. 6 to 8 treatments are usually required. This is individual and varies in different areas of the body. In areas under hormonal influence eg; face, tummy, and mens backs, the body may continue to grow new hairs from dormant follicles, thus maintenance treatments will be required every three(3) to six (6) months. This will be discussed further at your consultation.

What do I need to do prior to treatment

It is important not to expose the area to the sun or tanning beds for six (6) weeks prior to treatment. Fake tan cannot be used on the area for fourteen (14) days. The area must not be waxed, plucked or epilated for six (6) weeks on the body or four (4) weeks on the face before your treatment. Shaving is allowed.
